ak_wood14bWood countertops bring warmth to any kitchen. A luxurious choice for countertops, the variety of colors and finishes of wood is limitless. Wood countertops provide a beautifully finished kitchen both complementing and completing the overall look and texture of the room. Your new wood countertops will complement your wood cabinets whether stained or painted. The high-end luxury look of wood is typically very reasonably priced and although it is more than laminate countertops, wood is typically not as expensive as granite.

Looking for a sustainable countertop? Reclaimed wood is a great choice. It complies with LEED standards and is the most eco-friendly of countertops. Wood is one of the more sanitary products for the kitchen, with inherent properties to protect it from bacteria build-up.

Wood countertops do require some maintenance, including regular mineral oil treatments. And because wood oxidizes over time, your wood countertops may change color as they age. Repair of wood countertops is generally easy and when they need updating or refreshing, most only require a bit of sanding with a 220 fine-grit sandpaper and re-oiling.

Advantages of Wood

  • Natural with many eco-friendly options
  • Easy to clean
  • Provides a smooth, even surface
  • Warm appearance and renewable surface
  • Sanitary with inherent anti-bacterial properties Read More→

Granite Countertops: Simple Elegance

Posted by: Carol | Comments (0)

Pool House Kitchen-BarDecisions – Decisions – Decisions!  It used to be that you really only had one or two choices for kitchen countertops when building a new home or remodeling your kitchen. Well, that is certainly not the case today! There are so many choices of surfaces on the market, yet granite remains the top choice for remodeling. Why? Most likely because of its natural beauty and its durability.

Granite was once so pricey that you only found it in the most expensive homes, but now it is the classic staple of most kitchens and bathrooms from swanky highrises to hotels and entry level homes to pricey mansions. Granite simply is the countertop material that defines elegance in a kitchen. It is 100-percent natural and each piece is a unique work of art.

The resilience of granite makes it the perfect choice for kitchens and bathrooms where durability and stain resistance is a priority. No other material lasts longer or looks more elegant.

Here are our top 5 reasons to invest in  Granite:

  1. Natural
  2. Long lasting and durable
  3. Heat, scratch and stain resistant
  4. Maintenance free with minimal care (see our article on Granite and Stone Care)
  5. High value to homebuyers (good for resale)

kitchen-countertops-atlantaYour beautiful granite kitchen countertops will last a lifetime with proper care. You can help them retain their beauty by following  some basic care tips to keep your granite countertops looking their best.

  • Clean up spills immediately – Use an absorbent cloth followed by First Line Clean & Restore
  • Daily cleaning – use warm water with a few drops of mild or antibacterial dishwashing detergent. Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Don’t use abrasive dry or soft cleaners or those containing harsh chemicals like ammonia.
  • Hot, Hot Hot – Granite can take hot pans, but it is best to place on pans on a trivet or hot pad. Avoid placing anything with hot cooking oils on the counter top.
  • Keep the cutting board – Avoid cutting directly on granite. Although it Read More→

For this reason, the kitchen and bath supply company offers a myriad of green products for consumers to choose when remodeling their home. One of the most elegant and luxurious green products we offer are the Cambria quartz countertops.

Of course there are many reasons to choose Cambria quartz in addition to the fact that they are eco-friendly.
