Atlanta Kitchen was proud to make the Counters for a Cause national yard sale of Artisan Group a success – helping to raise $32,000 for Homes for Our Troops, a group that builds specially adapted homes for wounded veterans. By working together with fabricators all across the country, this event was made a stirring success for veterans.

Artisan Group Executive Director Chad Seiders presented the proceeds check to Homes for Our Troops representative and beneficiary marine Corporal Neil Frustaglio. Corporal Frustaglio was happy to accept the substantial donation, which will go directly to veterans, who need homes specially adapted to aid with their unique injuries. These adaptations are for both safety and mobility, to keep veterans out of wheelchairs and able to live life as they did before their sacrifice for their country.

Atlanta Kitchen and Construction Resources feel privileged to give back to soldiers that have given their blood, sweat and part of themselves to defend our rights and freedoms. This donation has been a great end to the “Counter for a Cause” sales event, and with such a considerable start we are excited to see how much we can raise by making “Counters for a Cause” into an annual event to give back.

Until next year’s “Counters for a Cause,” be sure to check our December to Remember sales event at our indoor Slab Gallery at 224 Rio Circle, Decatur, Ga. 30030, or see our wide selection on our website www.constructionresourcesusa.com.

In conjunction with C.H. Briggs, Atlanta Kitchen fabricated and installed art made of DuPont Corian in a local MARTA station. The project was done as a part of “Light Up Atlanta Installation.”

The artwork, the Seed Bench at Peachtree Center, was designed by Kellen Minor.

“Corian is often thought of as simply a countertop surface,” said Mitch Hires, co-owner of Construction Resources. “The Light Up Atlanta installations show the true versatility of Corian as well as the talent of the Atlanta design community.”

In the “Light Up Atlanta” project, C.H. Briggs commissioned Atlanta’s local artists to incorporate Corian into a work of art representing what Atlanta signifies for them. For his inspiration, Minor drew on his experiences of moving to the city when he was young, comparing them to the germination of a seed. Blue and white LED lights were used to simulate roots and leaves, which are a metaphor for growth and opportunity.

Atlanta Kitchen received sheets of DuPont Corian and fashioned the material per Minor’s design. Corian is a durable and flexible solid-surface material suitable for a wide range of design applications.

As Atlanta’s leading supplier of kitchen and bath supplies, the support over the years has obviously been tremendous. For this reason, the company is always looking for ways to give back to the community that has been responsible for its success. Recently, Construction Resources and Atlanta Kitchen donated services to the Inspiration House, which is part of the Cathedral Antiques Show & Tour of Homes.

Atlanta Kitchen provided several services for concrete slabs that were donated by J. Aaron Cast Stone. The slabs were used as concrete countertops in the Inspiration House kitchen, serving as one of the room’s focal points.

The house was one of four on display at the 40th annual Cathedral Antiques Show & Tour of Homes from the Episcopal Church Women of the Cathedral of St. Philip. All of the proceeds from the event went to H.E.R.O. for Children, an organization that helps children affected by HIV-AIDS.

Construction Resources’ support of the local community comes from a desire to give something back to the surrounding area. The company has worked with HomeAid Atlanta and UMCH in the past and is always looking for new opportunities to provide the citizens of Atlanta with a better future.

Everything that is done to benefit citizens also benefits the surrounding area. For this reason, Construction Resources recently donated new kitchen countertops, sinks and faucets to the Teaching Kitchen of the United Methodist Children’s Home (UMCH).

The Decatur-based facility was built in the 1970s as a way to teach underprivileged children skills that would last them a lifetime. Since that time, the kitchen has fallen on hard times and is in dire need of repairs and renovations. There is currently a project underway to restore the facility to working order and to replace the aging cabinetry and appliances. Because of donations from Construction Resources and other metro-Atlanta companies, workers have begun construction on the kitchen. Once the project is complete, the facility will be run by volunteers and UMCH staff who will teach cooking skills to children 11 to 18.

Construction Resources is proud to help strengthen the community in which it works.

“We are pleased that we could contribute to such a worthy cause,” said Mitch Hires, president of Construction Resources. “We understand the importance of teaching young people the ability to be self-sufficient.”

In addition to the UMCH, Construction Resources has donated generously to HomeAid Atlanta over the years, helping to provide housing for temporarily homeless families in Atlanta.

That is why the company spends a lot of time giving back to the community through its relationship with HomeAid Atlanta.

The most recent project was just completed in Rockdale County. Atlanta Kitchen provided vanity tops for eight apartment units at Phoenix Pass, a project we worked on in conjunction with HomeAid Atlanta. Phoenix Pass just celebrated the grand opening of these single family apartments in Conyers which will provide help for temporarily homeless women and children. The apartments are designed to feel like home with a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and one bathroom. Residents can stay up to two years, and will receive help with budgeting, job training and guidance in family care and management.

This apartment building is EarthCraft certified, meaning it meets stringent environmental and energy standards. Another apartment building is planned, which will also be EarthCraft certified.

The transitional housing will be a great asset to the Rockdale County area and Construction Resources is proud to be a part of the project.

HomeAid Atlanta is the non-profit organization of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and strives to provide transitional housing for Atlanta’s homeless population. The new duplex at Tapestry Youth Ministries will serve homeless mothers and their babies, providing them with both emotional support as well as a place to live while they get their lives back on track. It’s a remarkable project that serves an exceptional purpose, and Construction Resources is proud to have been a trade partner that helped complete the project.

Atlanta Kitchen, Inc., a subsidiary of Construction Resources, donated countertops and sinks to the duplex. To be specific, the company installed Staron and Corian solid surface countertops as well as stainless steel sinks with backplashes in all of the units. As one of over 50 trade partners for the project, Construction Resources was honored during the dedication ceremony.

The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, which was held on March 30th, signifies the opening the College Park duplex. It took a year of renovations and donations from the local home building industry, but Tapestry Youth Ministries will now be able to serve young mothers between the ages of 18 and 23 (with their existing facilities, the non-profit organization servers teen mothers aged 14 to 17).

Great job Atlanta Kitchen, Inc. Thanks to your generosity, many homeless women and children will be able to get on their feet and on the right track to living an independent lifestyle.

This is a great honor for us, as the award is given in honor of “an extraordinary non-builde”r who has partnered with HomeAid Atlanta on one or more of its transitional housing developments. Executive Director of HomeAid Atlanta, Ann Carey stated, “Construction Resources was nominated for the Trade Partner of the Year award by HomeAid Atlanta’s board of directors and staff, and they were selected based on their service and commitment to HomeAid Atlanta and its mission to provide transitional housing for Atlanta’s homeless population.”

During the past four years, Construction Resources has donated and installed a combination of kitchen countertops, cultured marble vanity tops, sinks, mirrors and wire shelving for five transitional housing projects. Most recently, we partnered with HomeAid Atlanta on Phoenix Pass in Conyers. The 8-unit apartment building and community center is being designed to serve homeless single mothers with children. Construction Resources is providing eco-friendly countertops to the project, which will be EarthCraft House certified once complete. The other four housing projects in which Construction Resources partnered with HomeAid include HomeStretch, Community Advanced Practice Nurses, My House and Tapestry Youth Ministries.

We hope you will consider supporting HomeAid Atlanta as well. You can contact them at 678-775-1401 or www.HomeAidAtlanta.org.

The fundraiser showcases the craftsmanship of some of the area’s most talented architects, home builders, interior designers and other trade partners in impressive, kid-friendly mini-mansions. These dream homes are complete with top-of-the-line upgrades and decorated by the area’s best interior designers. The homes, even though they are custom, are not out of reach for families in metro Atlanta – each of the homes can be won through raffle.

Atlanta Kitchen, Inc. has been a supporter of Project Playhouse for several years – as both a trade partner on a number of playhouses and as a volunteer, selling raffle tickets at the Playhouse Village. This year, the specialty provider of kitchen products has donated material and installation of granite countertops in Camp Tranquility, a playhouse being built by Dan DeJiacomo Custom Homes. Camp Tranquility is a whimsical mountain lodge featuring shiplap and cedar shake siding, a stacked stone front porch, chimney, swing, hardwood floors, chandelier, sink, undercounter refrigerator, faux fireplace with a 32” flat panel television, and lots of toys for endless fun. Visit the playhouse village at The Avenue Forsyth September 19 through October 10 to see Camp Tranquility and all the other playhouses.
