Granite and Stone Care

By Carol

kitchen-countertops-atlantaYour beautiful granite kitchen countertops will last a lifetime with proper care. You can help them retain their beauty by following  some basic care tips to keep your granite countertops looking their best.

  • Clean up spills immediately – Use an absorbent cloth followed by First Line Clean & Restore
  • Daily cleaning – use warm water with a few drops of mild or antibacterial dishwashing detergent. Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Don’t use abrasive dry or soft cleaners or those containing harsh chemicals like ammonia.
  • Hot, Hot Hot – Granite can take hot pans, but it is best to place on pans on a trivet or hot pad. Avoid placing anything with hot cooking oils on the counter top.
  • Keep the cutting board – Avoid cutting directly on granite. Although it won’t hurt the granite, it will certainly dull your knives.
  • Set the table – Protect your investment from food and beverage spills by using placemats and coasters
  • Reseal – You should reseal your kitchen countertop every 1 to 2 years for lighter colors, and at longer intervals for darker colors. First Line Sealer, available from Construction Resources is the perfect solution.
  • Create a routine – A simple weekly maintenance routine is recommended.  A good product to use is Artisan Stone Care. This three in one cleaner, polisher and protector can be found at Construction Resources.  This product cleans and conditions natural stone surfaces.  It removes grease, dirt, stains, and scuffmarks while reducing water spotting, and its unique, natural pH formula won’t harm stone. Best of all at only $20 / each plus tax, it is easily affordable.
